Yemen's warring sides agree on steps to end years-long war, UN says

Dec 24, 2023

Cairo [Egypt], December 24: Yemen's warring sides have reached a commitment to steps aimed to end a years-long conflict in the country, UN special envoy for Yemen Hans Grundberg said on Saturday.
Yemen has been locked in a devastating conflict between the Saudi-backed government and Iran-aligned Houthis since late 2014. In March this year, Saudi Arabia and its regional rival Iran agreed in a China-brokered deal to restore their ties after a rupture of seven years, a step that raised hopes for an end to years of bloodshed in impoverished Yemen.
