Zelensky says he'll meet Trump in New York as peace efforts pick up

Kiev [Ukraine], September 23: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has announced plans to meet US President Donald Trump in New York in the coming days as efforts intensify to revive negotiations aimed at ending the war in Ukraine.
Zelensky said he had spoken to Trump by phone and discussed a range of issues ahead of the meeting, which is expected to take place while both leaders attend the United Nations General Assembly.
A meeting in New York "could achieve a lot," Zelensky wrote on Telegram on Sunday, pointing to the possibility of renewed negotiations to end the war. "The diplomatic momentum is there," he said.
Zelensky met US chief negotiator Steve Witkoff and Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner earlier this month when they travelled to Kiev.
Plans are under way to revive direct negotiations between Kiev and Moscow under US mediation, with Russia saying talks could resume in October.
Negotiations reached an impasse last winter and were subsequently suspended during the Iran war.
