Aug 25, 2025

Cairo [Egypt], August 25: Rescuers pulled another dead body from the Mediterranean Sea off the coast of the Egyptian city of Alexandria on Sunday, bringing the death toll from an incident at the popular summer resort to seven, local media reported.
On Saturday, the Egyptian Ministry of Health said six students drowned off a beach in the Al Ajami area of western Alexandria. Twenty-four others were rescued and treated for asphyxia.
The latest recovered corpse was that of a young man in his 20s, the privately owned Egyptian newspaper al-Masry al-Youm reported online. A group of about 147 students coming from the Sohag province in southern Egypt was on a trip to Alexandria for a summer training course. The tragedy unfolded after one female student went into the sea amid strong waves, despite a swimming ban indicated by a red warning flag on the beach, according to the report. (DPA)
