The US military is launching a massive offensive in Syria

Washington [US], January 11: The US military announced on January 10th that it had carried out multiple attacks in Syria targeting the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS).
"Today's attacks targeted ISIS across Syria," the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said in a statement. CENTCOM added that the attacks were carried out in the early afternoon of January 10th, U.S. time (early morning of January 11th, Vietnam time).
The statement did not specify whether anyone was killed in the attacks. The Pentagon declined to comment further. The U.S. State Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment, according to Reuters.
The attacks on January 10 were part of a campaign launched last month after ISIS members killed American soldiers in Syria , according to CENTCOM.
Earlier, the US military announced that two of its soldiers and a civilian interpreter were killed in an attack on December 13, 2025, after a gunman, described by Washington as a member of ISIS, ambushed them in Palmyra, a site with UNESCO-recognized ancient ruins that was once controlled by ISIS
The Syrian Interior Ministry later announced that the gunman was a member of the security forces and was scheduled to be dismissed for extremism.
"We will never forget, and we will never give in," U.S. War Secretary Pete Hegseth wrote on the social media platform X, responding to a recent statement from CENTCOM, according to AFP. The U.S.-led coalition has conducted airstrikes and ground operations in Syria targeting suspected ISIS members in recent months, often with the participation of Syrian security forces. Approximately 1,000 U.S. troops remain in Syria.
Syria has been cooperating with the US-led coalition against IS, reaching an agreement late last year when Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa visited the White House, according to Reuters.
